World War Hulk: X-Men Review

Hulk World War: Hulk X-Men ComicsI decided to pick up a few of the World War Hulk comics after reading that Joe Carnahan wants to do a World War Hulk Movie. I had to choose between the actual World War Hulk books or World War Hulk: X-Men. I picked up the later because I was hoping to get a glimpse of my second favourite Marvel character, Gambit. Sadly, he did not appear in the issue… At least, I wasn’t expecting to see the Green Goliath transform back into Bruce Banner!

In 2007, three issues were released for the X-Men World War Hulk mini-series. The story was written by Christos Gage and drawn by Andera Di Vito. The duo also worked together for Civil War: House of M mini-series in 2005. I really like Di Vito’s drawing style. It’s very cartoonish. Of course, the occasional scene is sometimes a bit sketchy, but overall the art work is amazing. Laura Villari does great work colouring the panels as well!

Storyline

Incredible Hulk fights X-Men and Profess XavierIn World War Hulk: X-Men, the Green Goliath seeks out Professor Xavier. The Worldbreaker a.k.a. Green Scar a.k.a. the Hulk wants to know whether Xavier would have voted against his exile from Earth. Yet, the X-Men do not trust the Incredible Hulk. They believe the Green Scar wants to kill Professor Xavier! This means that for three whole comic books, you get to see the Hulk fight almost all the top X-Men! I’m surprise how witty the Incredible Hulk is! I actually chuckled a few times while reading the books.

I really don’t have much negative things to say about the World War Hulk: X-Men mini-series. The art is good, the story is really fun but I guess the ending is a bit disappointing…

World War Hulk Vs Emma Frost

Emma Frost losing a fight against the Incredible Hulk

If you have been keeping up to date with the upcoming Avengers Vs X-Men news, the Incredible Hulk was shown confronting Emma Frost in an Avengers Vs X-Men preview poster. I was surprised to discover that the Green Goliath had already fought the White Queen! In World War Hulk: X-Men #2, Bruce Banner’s alter ego defeats Emma Frost by shoving her into the ground while she is in diamond form. She is only able to flee because the Green Scar is not only fighting her but almost every other X-Men at the same time! If you haven’t read World War Hulk: X-Men mini-series, I suggest you check it out now!

Best Incredible Hulk Podcast

If you are anything like me, you haven’t read that many Incredible Hulk comics. I’ve only checked out the beginning of Greg Pak’s World War Hulk series and the most recent run written by Jason Aaron. That’s why Padsmash is such a great tool!

In the standard Padsmash episode, J. David Weter provides listeners with synopsis’s of the various Incredible Hulk issues. Though Weter’s focus is mainly on Peter David, the man who wrote comic books featuring Dr. Bruce Banner for over 12 years, in episode 13, Weter describes the Incredible Hulk’s story from the begging. Yes, this means he begins at Incredible Hulk Volume 1 Number 1 produced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Weter’s voice isn’t annoying and you can truly see that he has lots of experience doing podcasts. He is concise and to the point. I enjoyed it. However, the ad at the beginning really confused me. I wasn’t sure if the link was broken because I wasn’t expecting to hear about Superman!

In any case, Padsmash is most likely the best Incredible Hulk podcast available today. If you don’t want to listen to the first twelve episodes, check out Padsmash episode 13.

What is Bowen Designs?

I’ve been hearing a lot about Bowen statues online so I decided to google it. Bowen Designs is a company dealing in the creation and sale of collectible statues usually based on Marvel Comic characters like the Incredible Hulk.

The company began in 1978 and is run by Randy Bowen. The headquarters are in Milwaukee, Oregon. I’m not surprised that such a cool indy company is situated in Oregon! In 1997, Bowen Designs started to work with Marvel Comics. In May 1998, the first Bowen Mini-Bust was realesed. Guess which character was made into a statue? It was the Incredible Hulk!

Green Hulk Retro Mini-Bust

The Green Hulk Retro Mini-Bust is obviously designed and sculpted by Randy Bowen. It is based on the early appearances of the Green Goliath in the Incredible Hulk comic book series. This particular Hulk mini-bust is 8 inches tall.

Possible World War Hulk Movie?

In an interview, the director Joe Carnahan hints at his upcoming dream project: a big budget blockbuster based on World War Hulk comic series by Greg Pak. I really hope that the movie surpasses the numerous problems with Hulk (2003). I will be watching the 2008 Hulk movie soon.

Hulk World War Hulk Hard CoverI would love to make a World War Hulk film.. you know that comic where Hulk takes on Charles Xavier, Tony Stark and all of Earth’s heroes and just [obliterates them]? That would be amazing to do! Maybe they’ll let me completely destroy Manhattan [laughs]. I think the character itself is so full of depth…I’m more of a fan of Ang Lee’s Hulk [movie] because it really captured that Jekyll and Hyde feel. I love seeing Hulk be docile and calm when he’s alone but go totally ballistic when anyone messes with him. If I could do it for $20 million, even better.
- Joe Carnahan

I haven’t picked up the World War Hulk comics, but I am planing to soon because I really loved the Planet Hulk film. World War Hulk is essentially the follow-up to the Incredible Hulk’s adventures on Sakaar.

Watch The Incredible Hulk (1966) Animated Series

I haven’t really finished adding information about Bruce Banner’s first television appearances in The Marvel Super Heroes (1966) but I couldn’t wait to share the series. The animation is pretty bad. I shouldn’t be surprised because this Incredible Hulk cartoon is from the 60′s. I think many American cartoons from that era suffered from bad animation.

On the other hand, the theme song is amazing! I wonder who decided it was a good idea to make the intro music jazzy. Anyways, if you are feeling a bit nostalgic or want to see what the original Hulk cartoon looks like, feel free to check out these Incredible Hulk (1966) episodes!

The Incredible Hulk Theme Songs

I really enjoy music in cartoons. I decided to check out all the Incredible Hulk theme music. I’d have to say that the best composers are from the The Marvel Super Heroes cartoon 1966 and The Incredible Hulk 1996. It’s kind of cool that both of these animated television series both came out in years that end with the number six. Anyways, here are all the themes songs from the introductions of the television series dedicated to Bruce Banner and his green alter-ego!

Hulk (1966) Theme Song

Lyrics

Doc Bruce Banner,
Belted by gamma rays,
Turned into the Hulk.

Ain’t he unglamor-ous!

Wreckin’ the town
With the power of a bull,

Ain’t no monster clown
Who is as lovable.

As ever-lovin’ Hulk! HULK!! HULK!!

Voice of the Hulk: Fred Tatasciore Interview

You all know that I have been watching the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cartoon. So far, I’ve been pretty disappointed: the theme song is horrendous and the Incredible Hulk gets minimal air time. After the introductory Avengers episodes, the Green Goliath actually disappears until episode 13, Enter the Whirlwind.

Instead of complaining about the Marvel cartoon series, I’ve decided to share an interview with the Incredible Hulk, Fred Tatasciore. Obviously, he isn’t the real Green Goliath. Tatasciore is the voice actor that plays the Incredible Hulk in the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. He really looks like a comic book fan…

I really should check out who does the voice of Bruce Banner in this animated television series. I wonder if it’s the same voice actor or not? Due to the minimal presence of Dr. Banner in the show, there is probably not a voice actor who solely performs role. Is it Tatasciore? I’ll have to check and update you guys when I write more about the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Incredible Hulk Vs. Emma Frost

Avengers Vs X-Men preview with the Incredible Hulk fighting Emma FrostIt’s confirmed! The Incredible Hulk will be in the next Marvel event, Avengers Vs X-Men. I’m quite happy about this because the Rulk was getting the all the attention in Avengers: X-Sanction.

The question now is who would win in a fight between the Green Goliath and Emma Frost. It should be obvious that the Incredible Hulk does over power Emma Frost. However, the girl is psychic! There are a number of tricks that she could play on the Hulk. The success of these tricks are totally dependent on the intelligence of the Bruce Banner’s alter-ego in the Avengers Vs X-Men series. I’m looking forward to the fight!

By the way, it isn’t the first time Emma Frost fights the Bruce Banner’s alter ego. She lost verus the Incredible Hulk in World War Hulk: X-Men.

I’d like to thank the AJ from the Red Hulk Blog for the heads up!
